Different Types of Laser Machines for Engraving

Not all laser engravers are the same. Each laser works differently, and the right machine can make the difference between a light mark… and a perfect, professional result.

At ManCave Machining, we use four different laser systems because each one is built for a specific type of material. That’s how we get clean detail on everything from metal tags to wood gifts to K9 crystal.

Here’s a quick look at each machine and what it’s best for.

1. MOPA Fiber Laser — For Metals

If it’s metal, this is the machine we use.

Our fiber laser creates dark, crisp marks on materials like:

  • Stainless steel
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Anodized or powder‑coated items

It’s perfect for things like tool tags, serialized parts, industrial plates, and metal drinkware.

2. UV Laser — For Plastics & Heat‑Sensitive Materials

Some materials melt or warp under normal lasers. That’s where UV comes in.

We use it for:

  • Plastics
  • Electronics housings
  • Rubber and heat‑sensitive materials

It creates extremely fine detail without burning or distortion — ideal for technical labels.

3. CO₂ Laser — For Wood, Acrylic, Leather & Non‑Metals

Our CO₂ laser handles all the organic materials, such as:

  • Wood
  • Acrylic
  • Leather
  • Rubber
  • Cardboard

We use it for signs, stencils, templates, décor pieces, cutting boards, and custom gifts.

4. Green Laser — For K9 Crystal Subsurface Engraving

This is our specialty machine for engraving inside K9 crystal blocks.

The green laser creates floating 2D or 3D images under the surface — perfect for awards, memorial pieces, and custom crystal gifts.

Why Using the Right Laser Matters

Each material reacts differently to heat and wavelength. Using the correct machine means:

  • Cleaner detail
  • Better contrast
  • Longer-lasting engraving
  • No burning, melting, or surface damage
  • More consistent results

Most shops only use one type of laser.
We use four — because it gives you better results every time.
